A plan like that would probably also be meant to off the baby as well, but Nanny managed to save the prince (and the queen for a little while). More reason for the Felmets to dislike witches. And Nanny mentioned none of it... out of shame of failure, maybe?
Has potential. The Felmets then maybe planned to say that the King died from his grief. But that horrible witch gave him a son to live for, and the kingdom lost a queen but gained a prince, so the national mourning wasn't at the level the Felmets had planned on.
I'm not so sure that's what happened, given that we never see anyone grieving for either the king or the queen in WS. People are scared, that's one thing. But they're not grieving.
