Hmm ... which is why I thought Nellie Stamp is a
great name for a music-hall performer. Music-hall is -- as I understand it -- a rowdier place than, say, an opera house or a concert hall. I'd expect people to stamp their feet there, or do other rude things (e.g. shout encouragement, throw orange peels or peanuts etc).
IIRC, people did that when Shakespeare's plays were first performed.
The Globe used to be a much earthier place.
