I went to see Nomadland in the cinema, yesterday. First time in a cinema for, what seems like, a very long time. The film itself was beautifully filmed and filled me with nostalgia for the Southwestern United States. Beautiful, but somehow depressing - people that had fallen through the cracks in life, for one reason, or another, to the point that they were living on the very edge of survival, travelling the country between seasonal work. Frances McDormand is amazing in this film. Possibly the weakest part of the story is that Amazon seems a perfectly appealing place to work.

This might not be of much interest to the people here but I watched a C4 documentary the other day, 'Footballs Addiction to Gambling'. It was of interest to me due to having spent most of my working life in casinos and have witnessed first-hand how people are affected by gambling addiction and the changes in the gaming industry with the relaxation of gambling laws and advertising, in particular the industry's attitude to helping problem gamblers. (my last casino only paid lip service to the self-regulating rules of problem gamblers, for example, if they thought one of the official bodies like the gaming commission was watching. It really was quite disturbing to watch and I feel sorry that the field I used to work in has fallen so far when it comes to integrity.

*shrug* The whole point of the gambling industry is to make as much money as possible. If that means making someone else miserable, so be it. :(

As for me, I didn't want to make a living off the misery of others, which is why I work in the healthcare industry. :)

But then, gambling was always been a ruthless industry. I'm sure it was even worse back when the Romans bet on chariot races and gladiator fights. ;) The Romans didn't just have organised gambling, either, but also ticket scalpers and other so-called "modern" parasites.

Here's another thought: what were Rome's aristocratic families, like the Claudii and the Julii, but a bunch of Mafia thugs? Sure, they wore togas instead of suits and used knives instead of sub-machine guns, but other than that ... ;)

Watched John Carter a couple of nights ago. We thought it was really good! Can't understand why it bombed at the box office. Although, I have to admit that we had no interest in going to the theater to see it.
I'm watching it at the moment. I love how John's doggy monster follows him everywhere - a real Luggage in my opinion

Just watched Gunpowder Milkshake I really enjoyed it, film with a difference all woman protagonists.

In her turbulent life as a professional assassin, Scarlet was cruelly forced to abandon her daughter Sam and go on the run. Years later, despite the estrangement, Sam has also grown up into a cold blooded hitwoman. After a high-stake mission spins out of control, putting an innocent 8-year-old girl in the middle of the gang war she has unleashed, Sam has no choice but to go rogue. This ultimately leads her back to her mother and her former hitwomen sidekicks, who all join forces in an avenging war against those who took everything from them.

Watched, The Tomorrow War it was Ok, reminded me of Starship Troopers similar concept I would not have paid money for a cinema ticket to see it, but some unexpected twists and turns in it so good overall for me it was worth watching on Amazon prime. Reminds me of Starship Troupers.
Storyline
The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

I have been waiting to see Snake Eyes, Rotten Tomatoes gives 40% audience gives 70% score on IMDb gave it between 5 & 6 I will still go to see it.

I recently watched the incredible HBO miniseries, "Chernobyl". Well worth checking out. The acting is superb, as is the gripping storyline. The whole Soviet fear of being held responsible for something, so playing down how serious a situation is, even when things are literally collapsing all around you, is very well portrayed.

Yesterday I went to see the Suicide Watch remake, it was OK the first half was just soso it did get a lot better in the second half some one liners made me laugh as did some of the visual scenes all in all I did quite enjoy it, Harley Quinn had more of a starring role than in any of the other two SS films.
Next inline is Snake Eyes and Ten Golden Rings.

On Netflix last night I watched Rich Crazy Asians I thought it was good, the lead part was played by
Henry Golding, who is in Snakes Eyes, Gemma Chan who is in the Imortals and Michelle Yeoh who I've never seen in a non martial arts fantasy film before.

With my daughter on her i pad we are watching season 3 of Britannia. Have seen the two seasons that went before. We are both addicted to it. Sure it's blood thirsty, dark, lots of swearing, magic & mystic, but it had humour & it's very watchable.:)
